Torino considers Linetty for captaincy and contract renewal, Vanoli believes in the Polish player.

Praised first by Nicola, then commended by Juric, and now applauded by Vanoli – there is undoubtedly a reason why Karol Linetty, during his four-year spell at Torino, has consistently garnered accolades from the managers who have overseen him.

Since his transfer from Sampdoria to the shadow of the Mole on 26 August 2020, the midfielder has proven to be an invaluable asset for every squad he has been part of.

It is clear; the class of ’95 (who will blow out 30 candles come February) is not the type of player capable of single-handedly altering the outcome of a match or an entire season.

As evidenced by the mere two goals scored during his tenure at Torino, Linetty’s strengths lie in balance, solidity, and the vital ‘dirty work’ he brings to the pitch, which can play a significant role in the dynamics of every game he’s involved in.

This is well understood by Torino’s current manager, Vanoli, who has repeatedly expressed admiration for the former Sampdoria player.

He has developed a strong personal and professional rapport with Linetty. Vanoli has even been quoted by CalcioNews24, saying, “His dedication and understanding of the game make him indispensable.”

Unless there are last-minute changes, this unconditional esteem is expected to be cemented by handing Linetty the captain’s armband – a role historically graced by the likes of Valentino Mazzola at Torino.

Linetty has already sporadically held this honour, and starting from Sunday’s match against Cagliari, he might assume the captaincy full-time due to Zapata’s prolonged absence.

Whether this new responsibility might assist Linetty in addressing a more pressing issue with Torino – his contract extension – remains to be seen.

His current deal in Granada expires in June 2025, and as of now, the parties have yet to reach an agreement for renewal.

Linetty’s salary of €1.4 million per season is among the highest for the club, and any adjustment will be influenced by the role he carves out for himself this season.

In the meantime, he appears more ready than ever; he was, notably, one of the first at Filadelfia for training yesterday.

Aiming for the challenge in Sardinia is his immediate focus, with everything else to be considered thereafter.
