ArmInfo. At the initiative of the French Institute of Armenia and the French University in Armenia, in partnership with the Newmag publishing house, and with the support of the University Agency of Francophonie (AUF), Armenia has become the 39th country to host the Goncourt selections.
In this regard, Francois Rossino, the chief delegate of the Goncourt Academy and Pascal Bruckner, a renowned writer and member of the French Goncourt jury, have arrived in Yerevan. As ArmInfo was informed by the French Embassy in Armenia, the Armenian selection for the Goncourt Award will begin on October 12 at 12:00 local time, as part of Franconfest (Franconfest). For this first selection, a jury consisting of 31 students from the French Literature Department at the French University in Armenia, as well as from the Yerevan State University and V. Bryusov State University, will choose from 8 works published by the Goncourt Academy on October 1, 2024.
The jury's vote and the announcement of the winner of the Goncourt Armenian selection will be the most important event of the Francophonie Days scheduled for March-April 2025. The selected work will be translated into Armenian and published by Newmag. The presentation of the book will take place in October 2025 as part of Francofest, and the author will be invited to Armenia.
This initiative will be ongoing and will feature an award in the Armenian literary and publishing field for contemporary French-language literature. The winning work will be translated into Armenian and published. The establishment of an Armenian selection for the Goncourt Award is a new initiative under the Publication Support Program of the French Institute of Armenia, which assists publishers in translating and publishing French literary works in Armenian.
