YEREVAN, October 11. /ARKA/. It is planned to cut down 1,250 hazardous and dead trees in Yerevan, said Armen Begoyan, head of the Yerevan Municipality’s ‘Greening and Environmental Protection’ CNCO.nbsp;br/pp

The work that has already started in the capital is planned to be completed in mid-November. On an annual basis, starting in the fall of 2022, work is being carried out to cut down dry or dead trees, Begoyan said at a press conference on Friday.nbsp;/pp

He reported that this year the volume of cutting the above-mentioned trees has increased slightly.nbsp;/pp “The organization’s capabilities allow to cut down 1,000 dead and hazardous trees annually, but overall, the number of such trees in Yerevan can reach 10,000,” Begoyan said.nbsp;/pp

According to him, more than 200 cases of damage to citizens' property have been recorded this year. Fortunately, no victims of falling branches of large trees have been registered among the population.nbsp;/pp

Begoyan reported that, in particular, new trees were planted on Tumanyan, Aleq Manukyan streets, and on Bagratunyats Avenue.nbsp;/pp

The organization's chief dendrologist, Artsvi Grigoryan stated that after cutting down trees, if they are located in public urban green spaces, new ones will be planted.nbsp;/pp

However, tree replacement work is rarely carried out in courtyard areas because our resources are insufficient. There are cases when residents contact us to plant trees in place of old ones at their own expense, and we respond to their proposals. We help them with plants and trees to plant in their courtyards. They, in turn take on further watering and maintenance work, Grigoryan noted./pp

Environmentalists and Yerevan residents have been complaining about mass tree cutting in recent years. -0-/p
