Opinion: Armenian authorities deliberately sacrificing country`s  sovereignty for Anglo-Saxon and Turkish interests

ArmInfo. The United States is opposed to Yerevan receiving any explicit security guarantees from the Americans' geopolitical enemies - Moscow and Tehran. Armenian political scientist Benjamin Matevosyan holds a similar opinion.

The expert recalled that a few days prior, James O'Brien, the US Deputy Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, had stated that "a future centered around the alliance of Russia and Iran as the main participants in the security of the region [the South Caucasus] is unstable and undesirable, especially for the governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan." "This statement by the American official means the following: Russia and Iran are offering Armenia security guarantees. Although Washington has been made aware of this, but the US's stance is that they oppose Yerevan receiving any clear security guarantees from the their geopolitical enemies - Moscow and Tehran. This is the primary issue at hand," the political scientist believes.

Secondly, according to Matevosyan, the Armenian Prime Minister's visit to the Turkish House and his request to Recep Tayyip Erdogan to become a mediator in the negotiation process with Azerbaijan indicate that Nikol Pashinyan has chosen the path of integrating the country into the Turkic world without security guarantees for Armenia, but with prospects for himself personally.

"Considering Turkey's role as a NATO operator in the Transcaucasus, it is obvious that Pashinyan's approach has been endorsed by the Americans," the expert believes.  At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that this is not the first time that James O'Brien, as well as former heads of the French Foreign Ministry, former NATO Secretary General and other "white gentlemen" have made statements about "Armenia's strategic choice". They dictate what Armenia should do and what "is in its interests", while also accusing Armenia's allies Russia and Iran of various ideas, including crimes against Armenia itself and Artsakh. Despite this, the Armenian Foreign Ministry, government  apparatus and other official structures in Yerevan remain silent. "They do not comment in any way on statements that clearly interfere in the internal affairs of the Republic of Armenia. The Armenian authorities consistently and purposefully sacrifice the country's sovereignty for Anglo-Saxon and Turkish interests," Matevosyan concluded.
