Birth rate in Armenia decreased by 7.3% in 8 months

YEREVAN, October 7/ARKA/. In Armenia, the birth rate decreased by 7.3% in January-August 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. This is evidenced by data published by Armenian National Statistical Committee. Decline in the birth rate has been recorded since January of this year.nbsp;br/pp
It is noted that 21,876 babies were born during the reporting period, while in the first eight months of 2023 there were 23,597 newborns./pp
Moreover, 307 cases of stillbirths were registered during the specified period, which is 11.2% more than in the same period in 2023.nbsp;/pp
Overall, 17,213 people died in the country from January to August 2024, which is 4.9% more than in the same period in 2023./pp
Thus, the vitality index - the ratio of the number of births to the number of deaths - in January-August of this year was 127.1% against 143.8% for the same period last year. -0-/p
