New 5-year tourism development strategy being worked out in Armenia

YEREVAN, September 30. /ARKA/. Armenia is in the process of finalizing a 5-year tourism development strategy,nbsp;Deputy Minister of Economy Narek Hovakimyan said.br/pp

Speaking at the panel discussion “Tourism in the EAEU: New Horizons” within the framework of the Third Eurasian Forum in Yerevan, the Deputy Minister emphasized that the Armenian authorities consider tourism as a strategic direction for long-term development./pp “For more than 20 years, tourism has been one of the key sectors of Armenia's economy. This area not only stimulates economic growth, but also creates new jobs, improves the quality of life of local communities and promotes cultural exchange,” Hovakimyan noted.nbsp;/pp

The Deputy Minister said that in recent years the A Government has implemented a number of institutional reforms aimed at improving the infrastructure, creating favorable environment for tourists, which increase Armenia's competitiveness in the international arena.nbsp;/pp

According to the data he cited, more than 2.3 million tourists visited Armenia in 2023, which is 40% more compared to the previous year.nbsp;/pp “The main growth was due to tourists from EAEU countries, Georgia, Germany, the United States and other countries. A landmark event was the adoption of a new law on tourism in September 2024, which provides for the improvement of the quality of services and protection of tourists' rights,” Hovakimyan noted.nbsp;nbsp;-0-/p
