Squid Game is copied from THIS Bollywood film? Netflix responds to director Soham Shah's plagiarism claims

0

Squid Game is one of the most popular Netflix series. When it was released in 2021, viewers couldn't stop discussing the crazy plot of the South Korean crime thriller. Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the series stars Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-joon, HoYeon Jung, Anupam Tripathi, Gong Yoo, and others. Four years after its release, Bollywood director Soham Shah has claimed that the makers have copied the plot from his 2009 movie Luck.

Luck starred Imran Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Shruti Haasan, and others. As reported by entertainment news portal TMZ, Soham Shah claimed that the story of his film is about people who play deadly games as they try their luck to win a jackpot. However, whenever any player dies, the prize money keeps on increasing. Similarly, in the Netflix show Squid Game, the characters also play such risky games and they die if they lose. However, with each other, the prize money keeps on growing. Here, they all participate in a reality show.

Soham Shah sued Netflix for ripping off his 2009 film starring Imran Khan and making it into a series. However, the streaming platform has denied the allegations. A Netflix spokesperson stated, "This claim has no merit. Squid Game was created by and written by Hwang Dong Hyuk and we intend to defend this matter vigorously."

Meanwhile, in his claims, Soham Shah mentioned that he wrote the story of Luck in 2006, and in July 2009, the movie was released worldwide, including the United Kingdom, United States, and UAE. Shah mentioned that Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk claimed that he wrote the story for the show in 2009, the same year his movie was released. So far, Shah has not reacted to Netflix's denial of plagiarism.
