GOAT box office collection day 8: Thalapathy Vijay film all set to surpass Varisu, but will it be able to beat Rajinikanth’s Jailer?
GOAT box office collection day 8: Thalapathy Vijay starrer The Greatest of All Time, aka GOAT, opened in theatres with great fan fare but the craze has fizzled out in just a week. GOAT collected Rs 44 crore as its box office collection on day one but by the time it reached day eighth of release, GOAT collected dropped to a miniscule Rs 6.5 crore in India. GOAT has not been able to live up to the expectations and has collected Rs 177.75 crore in India, as per a report on Sacnilk. However, not all is bleak of Vijay's penultimate film, before he enters Politics full time. All eyes are now on GOAT surpassing the collection of Vijay's 2023 film Varisu and it may happen with the Friday collection.
For a quick recall, Varisu made Rs 178.14 crore in India and grossed Rs 297.55 crore worldwide despite a massive box office clash with Ajith starrer Thunivu, which collected Rs 121.87 crore, and grossed Rs 200 crore worldwide. Trade experts say that Varisu would have done more numbers if it was not for a clash with Ajith's film. However, Thalapathy Vijay's other release Leo, had rocked the box office with amassing Rs 341 crore in India and grossing Rs 606 crore worldwide, becoming one of the biggest hits of the year.
And now, as GOAT prepares to beat Varisu, Vijay's fans are also closely looking at it reaching closer to Rajinikanth's Jailer overseas collections. GOAT has earned Rs 126.8 crore vis a vis Rs 196 crore of Jailer. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, GOAT brings Vijay in a double role using de-aging technology. This movie is creating waves in entertainment news.
