MG Windsor EV Launched at Rs. 9.99L, Undercuts Nexon.EV
JSW MG Motor India has broken the EV price barrier by launching the Windsor EV at ₹9.99 Lakh ex-showroom. This undercuts the EV champ in India, the Tata Nexon.EV. However, MG has been able to price the Windsor EV so competitively as they are renting out the battery of the Windsor. Here are more details.
What you actually pay?
So, the price is really tempting however, the price of the Windsor EV does not include the price of the battery. Which means, when you buy the Windsor EV, you own only the car and not the battery. JSW MG Motor India will be providing the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program. Under BaaS, customers will need to pay ₹3.5 per kilometer of usage. So the more you use the car, the more you will end up paying for it. On the flipside, the battery is protected under unlimited warranty for the first owners and since you do not own the battery, JSW MG Motor India will take care of the battery should any thing go wrong. A win-win? From a consumer perspective, it does look like a win.
Other Perks
The biggest perk that JSW MG Motor India is offering with the Windsor EV is 1-year free charging on the MG network. Which means atleast for a year, the running cost will be only ₹3.5 per kilometer.
The 3-3-3 package offers 3-years unlimited kilometer warranty, 3-years road side assistance and ₹0 labour cost on the first 3 services. Also, if you plan to sell the car, MG gives a buy-back guarantee of 60% value even after 3 years.
Windsor EV Design and Features
One of the Windsor’s standout qualities is its new ‘AeroGlide Design’ language. Combining aerodynamics with MG’s signature craftsmanship, this design prioritizes both form and function. The vehicle boasts the largest wheelbase in its segment and comes fitted with 18-inch Diamond Cut Alloy wheels, emphasizing both stability and style.
For longer drives, comfort is paramount, and the Windsor delivers with its segment-first ‘Aero-Lounge Seats,’ which can recline up to 135°, making road trips more enjoyable. Whether for short commutes or weekend getaways, the Windsor aims to provide an enhanced level of comfort and convenience.
The Windsor is built on a dedicated EV platform, offering a long wheelbase that provides a spacious cabin. Its higher ground clearance adds to its versatility, making it suitable for various road conditions and everyday use. Drawing design inspiration from Windsor Castle in the UK, the MG Windsor reflects meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to excellence.
Advanced Technology and Features
The MG Windsor EV features a 15.6-inch Grandview Touch Display, the largest infotainment touchscreen in its segment. This display will manage various functions, including HVAC controls, and support features like range and battery status indicators, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and connected car technology with the JioSaavn app.
The vehicle also includes premium features such as a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitor, automatic climate control, ambient lighting, a fully digital color instrument cluster, and faux wooden dashboard inserts. Additional amenities include a panoramic sunroof, Aero-Lounge rear seats that recline up to 135 degrees, power-adjustable front seats, a powered tailgate, wireless phone charging, and advanced connected car technology.
The Windsor EV comes in 4 colour options namely, Starburst Black, Pearl White, Clay Beige, and Turquoise Green. It will be available in three variants – Excite, Exclusive, and Essence.
Windsor EV Performance and Competition
The Windsor EV is offered with 37.9kWh battery paired with a single electric motor, providing a claimed range of 331 km on a full charge. The motor produces 136 hp and 200 Nm of torque. The car also comes with multiple driving modes – Eco, Eco+, Normal and Sport. The Windsor EV has stirred the competition with its price. However, it is closely priced to the Tata Nexon.EV and the Tata Punch.EV. In terms of its size, it should compete with its own sibling the MG ZS EV however, it undercuts the ZS EV by a huge margin.
