Honey Singh strongly criticises Gulzar's songs Namak Ishq Ka and Beedi Jalaile, 'Why is he talking about a woman's tongue'

Yo Yo Honey Singh, a popular rapper-singer in India, has been widely recognised for bringing Punjabi music to a global audience and Bollywood superstardom. With hit songs like Angreji Beat, Lungi Dance, and Chaar Botal Vodka, Singh became a household name. In a recent interview with the Times of India, Singh addressed the issue, questioning why he has been singled out when other famous songwriters, like Gulzar, have written similar lyrics but faced no such criticism. Singh pointed out that songs like Gulzar's Beedi Jalaile and Namak Ishq Ka from Omkara were never accused of being sexist. He expressed confusion over why no one questioned the lyrics of that song, which talk about a woman's tongue, asking why it was not considered offensive. He said he grew up listening to such songs, so are only his lyrics called sexist?

Further, the Lungi Dance singer also mentioned another famous song, Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai, a controversial track that has been criticised in the past. Despite this, the songwriters of such songs are still regarded as legends in the industry. Honey Singh believes there is a double standard when it comes to the way his lyrics are viewed compared to those of other respected musicians.

Honey Singh feels that he was an easy target because he never defended himself before. But now he is ready to take a stand against the accusations. When directly asked about the objectification of women in his songs, Singh dismissed the claims, saying that similar themes in his older songs were widely accepted and appreciated. Reflecting on the issue, Singh also talked about how people today often live with dual personalities and said, "We are carrying dual personalities modernising yet thinking backward."

Honey Singh took a break from his music career between 2014 and 2021 to focus on his mental health and overcome substance abuse problems. Now, as he returns to the music scene, his latest releases have not been as successful as his previous hits. Singh's life and career will soon be featured in a Netflix documentary, which promises to explore both his triumphs and challenges.
