GOAT box office collection day 3: After a low second day, Thalapathy Vijay's action thriller picks up and roars into Rs 100 crore club in India
Thalapathy Vijay's much-anticipated movie GOAT (Greatest of All Time) released on September 5, and fans were eagerly waiting to see him on the big screen again. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, this action-packed thriller marks Vijay's second last movie before he enters politics. Considering he will soon be quitting movies, the expectations were high, and many fans enjoyed the thrilling action sequences and mass appeal. However, the movie received mixed reactions from some critics and viewers.
Despite the mixed reviews, GOAT's opening collection of over Rs 44 crore was quite impressive and gave fans hope that it will keep doing well further. However, Day 2, which was a working Friday, saw a major decline in collections, leaving some fans worried. But things took a positive turn on Day 3, which was Saturday, as the movie gained momentum at the box office. On Saturday, the movie's collections grew by 29.41%, bringing its total earnings in India to over Rs 100 crore in just three days. The Tamil version of the film played a major role, contributing Rs 91 crore out of the total.
As reported by Sacnilk entertainment news portal, Thalapathy Vijay's GOAT earned Rs 33 crore on Saturday alone, with Rs 29.1 crore from the Tamil version, while the Hindi and Telugu versions added Rs 2.15 crore and Rs 1.75 crore, respectively. As of Saturday, the action thriller had reached a total net collection of Rs 102.5 crore in India. On Friday, the Tamil actioner earned around Rs 155 crore worldwide, and it is expected to cross Rs 200 crore by the end of the weekend.
Though it remains to be seen if GOAT can surpass Vijay's previous blockbuster Leo, which grossed over Rs 618 crore globally, GOAT is well on its way to being another big hit for Thalapathy Vijay. While fans are enjoying their favourite Tamil superstar lighting up the screens with his powerpacked performances, many couldn't get enough of the references and tributes in it. Venkat Prabhu's movie has paid tribute to top stars like Rajinikanth, Shah Rukh Khan, Ajith Kumar, Tom Cruise, and even cricketer MS Dhoni. These tributes are quite subtle in the form of music or popular poses. But fans couldn't easily figure out what the makers had done.
