Armenia records 6.3% increase in deaths in first seven months of 2024

YEREVAN, September 5. /ARKA/. Armenia registered 15,166 deaths between January and July 2024, marking a 6.3% increase compared to the same period in 2023, the country’s National Statistical Committee reported on Thursday./pp
More than half of the deaths (53.8%, or 8,151 people) were attributed to cardiovascular diseases, representing a 6.6% rise from the previous year. Cancer was the second-leading cause of death, accounting for 20% of cases, with 3,039 fatalities—a 2.4% increase./pp
Other significant causes of death included respiratory diseases (9.4%, or 1,425 people, up by 10.5%), digestive system diseases (5.3%, or 805 deaths, showing a 20.9% rise), external causes such as accidents or injuries (4%, or 610 deaths, up by 9.1%), endocrine system disorders (1.9%, or 285 deaths, a 10.9% rise), and infectious diseases (0.8%, or 123 deaths, up by 50%)./pp
