Kangana Ranaut strongly reacts to sexual assault allegations on actors in Malayalam film industry
Recently, the Hema Committee Report, commissioned by the Kerala government, revealed the serious issues of sexual harassment, gender inequality, and unsafe working conditions faced by women in the Malayalam film industry. The report highlighted problems like the "casting couch," lack of basic facilities such as toilets and safe transportation on film sets, and accusations against several prominent actors and film technicians. These revelations have led to widespread outrage and demands for significant changes to make the industry safer and fairer for women. In response to this report, actress Kangana Ranaut expressed her disappointment and frustration.
In an interview with an entertainment news portal, Kangana Ranaut stated that the industry has been keeping these issues hidden for six years. The Queen actress recalled that she spoke out against problems like rape culture and the portrayal of women in item songs on Aamir Khan's show Satyamev Jayate ten years ago. The actress highlighted how even after so many years, the same kind of harmful and sexist cinema is still being promoted, nothing has changed for the better.
Further, Kangana Ranaut shared her disappointment with women who do not support each other's work. She pointed out that some women question why she continues to fight for these issues, but she stated that her fight has led to lost opportunities for her. Despite this, Kangana remains committed to speaking out against the injustices faced by women in the film industry.
Following the Hema Committee report, the members of the Association of Malayalam Movie Actors (AMMA) committee have stepped out. The report also implicated several committee members, prompting them to take action. Several Malayalam actors, like Prithiviraj Sukumaran and Tovino Thomas, have reacted to the allegations against some popular male Malayalam stars. The actors demand that those accused and proven guilty of their crimes face harsh consequences.
