Kangana Ranaut is currently busy promoting her upcoming movie Emergency, where she takes on the challenging role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film focusses on the Emergency period in India, which took place from 1975 to 1977, highlighting Indira Gandhi's role during this controversial time. What makes this film even more significant is that Kangana has not only acted in it but also directed the political drama. With just one week left until the movie's release, it has already sparked several controversies.

One of the major issues surrounding Emergency is that some Sikh communities are calling for a ban on the film. These groups have expressed their concerns about the portrayal of certain events in the movie. In response to these demands, Kangana Ranaut has spoken out, questioning why people are so uncomfortable with facing the truth. She compared her film to Christopher Nolan's 2023 movie Oppenheimer, which was both a blockbuster and critically acclaimed.

In an interview with entertainment news portal India Today, Kangana Ranaut shared that her film, like Oppenheimer, presents different sides, and it makes difficult for the audience to pick a side. The actress is perplexed as to why some people find it hard to accept the truth, as it is something that is clearly evident. The actress explained that her portrayal of Indira Gandhi in the film is meant to show her as she was without labelling her as entirely good or bad. According to Kangana, the film aims to open up new ways of thinking for the audience, much like Oppenheimer did. She drew a parallel between the two films, saying that both leave viewers wondering whom to support.

Kangana further elaborated on her vision for the film, stating that the character of Indira Gandhi is complex, similar to the character of Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan's film. The Tanu Weds Manu actress said that life is not simple, and sometimes people are forced to act in ways they don't want to. Kangana compared her film to a Shakespearean tragedy, like Macbeth, where the main character becomes a victim of their own pride. In her view, Emergency shows how even the best people can fall prey to their own hubris.

Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan, was based on the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, who played a key role in developing the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II. While the film received praise in the United States, it faced criticism in Japan. The movie featured a star-studded cast, including Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, and Florence Pugh.
