2025 MG ZS Unveiled with Hybrid Powertrain

0

MG has officially unveiled the second-generation ZS for the European and Australian markets. In India, the ZS is familiar in its electric version, while the internal combustion engine (ICE) variant is sold under the name Astor.

The new ZS showcases a refreshed design, starting with a reimagined front fascia. It features a new octagonal grille, a sportier bumper, and redesigned headlamps. The bonnet appears slightly longer compared to the current model, while the nose adopts a flatter profile. The grille and bumper design seem to draw inspiration from the MG3 hatchback. Notably, the MG emblem has been repositioned from the grille to the top of the front bumper.

At the rear, the SUV benefits from updated tail lamps, a redesigned tailgate, and a reworked bumper, all contributing to a more upright stance. The wheel arches have also been subtly revised, and the alloy wheels now sport a fresh design.

Inside the cabin, the centre console has been updated to include a vertical wireless charging pad, with the start/stop button now integrated into the console. Below this, two cupholders are provided, along with a restyled gear lever. The updated ZS is packed with features, including a 12.3-inch infotainment display, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic headlights, keyless entry, leather upholstery, heated front seats and steering wheel, a six-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support, and a 360-degree camera. The model also boasts ADAS Level 2 safety technology, including Active Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and more.

Under the hood, the new MG ZS HEV shares its powertrain with the MG3 in its home market. It pairs a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 101 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, with a 100 kW electric motor powered by a 1.83 kWh battery pack, resulting in a combined power output of 192 bhp. MG claims the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds and achieve a top speed of 167 km/h.

The new MG ZS is priced in the UK starting at £21,995 (approximately Rs 24.39 lakh). In India, the Astor, its ICE counterpart, is currently available with prices ranging from Rs 9.98 lakh to Rs 18.08 lakh. However, MG Motor India has not yet announced a launch timeline for the next-generation Astor (ZS) in the Indian market. The current Astor competes with models like the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Kia Seltos, and Hyundai Creta. In the meantime, MG Motor India is preparing to unveil the MG Windsor EV on September 11.
