Farhan Akhtar calls Ranbir Kapoor's Animal character problematic, reveals he if would've produced the movie
Animal has become one of the biggest blockbusters of 2023, sparking widespread debate among both audiences and critics. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film received mixed reactions. While some praised its direction, music, technical excellence, and performances, others criticised it for being too violent and promoting toxic masculinity. The discussions surrounding Ranbir Kapoor's latest movie are reminiscent of the ones that followed Vanga's 2018 film, Kabir Singh. Recently, Farhan Akhtar shared his views on the film.
During an interview with Faye D'Souza, Farhan Akhtar was asked about Animal and Sandeep Reddy Vanga's approach. He acknowledged Ranbir Kapoor's performance, calling it "really good," and also appreciated the film's background score. However, Farhan found the character in the movie quite problematic. When asked if he would have produced the movie, he mentioned that he wouldn't have, as the film's theme didn't resonate with him. The Dil Dhadakne Do director also shared that the movie didn't have much of an impact on him, and he wouldn't necessarily recommend it to others.
Despite his reservations, Farhan praised Sandeep Reddy Vanga's dedication to bringing the film to life. He acknowledged that the director's commitment to making the movie, despite facing doubts and questions from others, was admirable. Farhan noted that, while some people might not like the film, they should still appreciate the determination it took to create it. He also mentioned that ultimately, it is up to the audience to decide what they want to watch, and he doesn't believe it's his place to dictate their choices.
Recently, even Stree 2 actor Rajkummar Rao reacted to the controversies surrounding Ranbir Kapoor's Animal. Rajkummar said that even though he had some issues with the movie, he enjoyed it and found Ranbir's performance brilliant. Rao also said that the movie is titled Animal and not Ideal Man, so it was expected that the character would be violent. He also said that if people are being influenced by such characters, the problem lies with them and not the movies.
