Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport: A Final Salute to the Iconic 6.3-Liter V8

0

In a fitting tribute to its 130-year motorsport legacy, Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the limited-edition GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport. This exclusive race car marks the end of an era, as it will be the last to feature the legendary 6.3-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine.

A Nod to the Past

The Edition 130Y Motorsport pays homage to the brand’s storied history, dating back to the 1894 Paris-Rouen race, where a Daimler-powered vehicle secured the first motorsport victory for the Three-Pointed Star. To commemorate this milestone, Mercedes-AMG has produced only 13 units of the GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport, making it a coveted collector’s item.

Performance and Innovation

Under the hood, the Edition 130Y boasts the 6.3-liter M156 V8 engine, delivering a staggering 680 horsepower at 7,250 rpm. The car also features a sequential six-speed gearbox, carbon ceramic brakes, and advanced active aerodynamics, including a drag reduction system (DRS) reminiscent of Formula 1.

A Design Tribute

The Edition 130Y Motorsport’s exterior is a nod to the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300 SL W 194, the brand’s first fixed-roof race car from 1952. The silver paint job with blue accents and the heavy active aerodynamics echo the design of the SLs that dominated the 1952 Carrera Panamericana and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Interior Elegance and Safety

The interior of the Edition 130Y is equally impressive, drawing inspiration from the Mercedes-Benz SLR 300. Blue checkered fabric upholstery, brown leather accents, and a bespoke steering wheel create a timeless and luxurious ambiance. Safety features include a carbon fiber safety cell, a steel roll cage, a five-point harness, safety nets, a fire suppression system, and an emergency hatch.

A Historic Lap

To commemorate its launch, the Edition 130Y set a new track record at Mount Panorama Circuit in Australia. Mercedes-AMG driver Jules Gounon completed a lap in an astonishing 1:56.605 seconds, surpassing the previous record by a significant margin.
