Ola Electric’s Gen 3 Platform: A Glimpse Into the Future of E-Scooters

0

Ola Electric, a dominant force in the electric two-wheeler segment, continues to innovate with the unveiling of its upcoming Gen 3 platform. Following the recent launch of its electric motorcycle in India, Ola has teased this new platform, which promises significant advancements for its future battery-powered scooters.

The Gen 3 platform is designed to deliver 26% better performance and a 22.5% reduction in costs compared to its predecessor, the Gen 2. This is achieved through Ola’s ‘Inside the Box’ philosophy, where the battery, motor, and electronics are integrated into a single unit, with the battery serving as a structural element. The scalable nature of the platform allows it to support a diverse range of models.

Ola Electric is expected to develop several new scooter models on the Gen 3 platform, potentially including commuter, sporty, and touring variants. The company has also been vocal about its in-house development of advanced battery cells, and the teased video hints at the upcoming 4689 cells, which are larger and more powerful than the current 2170 cells.

In terms of technology, the new electric motor on the Gen 3 platform features magnetized electrical coils instead of permanent magnets, enhancing efficiency and torque output. Additionally, the platform integrates the Battery Management System (BMS) and Motor Control Unit (MCU) into a single, high-performance multi-core processor. The Central Compute Board, housing all the main ECUs, is future-ready for advanced features like ADAS, further solidifying Ola Electric’s position at the forefront of innovation in electric vehicles.
