Citroën Basalt Price Reveal Scheduled for August 9

0

Citroën is set to announce the pricing for its all-new Basalt coupe-SUV on August 9, marking the official debut of its fifth model under the Stellantis umbrella in India. The Basalt is a significant addition to Citroën’s C-Cubed program, offering a coupe-styled alternative to the C3 Aircross SUV.

Design and Styling

The Citroën Basalt carries design elements reminiscent of the C3 Aircross, including V-shaped LED daytime running lights and a similar bumper layout. However, the Basalt differentiates itself with a sleek, coupe-like sloping roofline. Its exterior features dual-tone alloy wheels, wraparound LED tail lights, and a rear bumper accentuated by a silver skid plate, creating a distinctive and stylish look.

Engine and Performance

Under the hood, the Basalt offers a choice between two engines. The 1.2-liter turbocharged engine delivers 108 bhp and 190 Nm of torque and is available with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. This setup allows the Basalt to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a claimed 9.95 seconds. Alternatively, the 1.2-liter naturally aspirated engine produces 81 bhp and 115 Nm of torque and is paired exclusively with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Basalt’s fuel tank has a capacity of 45 liters, with fuel efficiency figures ranging from 18 km/l for the naturally aspirated petrol engine to 19.5 km/l for the turbo-petrol manual and 18.7 km/l for the turbo-petrol automatic.

Interior Features

Inside, the Citroën Basalt is equipped with a host of modern features. It boasts a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, complemented by a 7-inch digital driver’s display. Additional amenities include rear AC vents, steering-mounted audio controls, automatic climate control, and wireless phone charging. The interior design aligns with that of the C3 Aircross, incorporating the same dashboard layout and digital instrument cluster. The Basalt also features 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, adjustable rear thigh support—an industry first in this segment—and contoured rear headrests for enhanced comfort.

Safety Features and Competition

In terms of safety, the Basalt comes well-equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a rear parking camera with sensors, and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). This comprehensive safety suite ensures that the Basalt offers both style and protection for its occupants.

In terms of competition, the Citroën Basalt will face its most direct rival in the upcoming Tata Curvv, which is set to launch on September 2, 2024. Revealed earlier today, the Curvv also falls into the coupe-SUV category, promising to offer a formidable alternative in this segment.
