BMW Expands X3 Lineup with China-Exclusive Long Wheelbase Model
BMW has unveiled the X3 Long Wheelbase (LWB), a model specifically tailored for the Chinese automotive market. This marks the first time the X3 has been offered in an extended wheelbase configuration. Produced and sold exclusively in China, the X3 LWB will be available in two variants: the 25L xDrive and the 30L xDrive. Both models will roll off the production line at the Shenyang facility, a joint venture between BMW and Brilliance Automotive.
Roomier and More Luxurious
The X3 LWB prioritizes passenger comfort, particularly in the rear, with a significantly extended wheelbase compared to the standard global model. BMW has incorporated various premium features and technologies to enhance the overall luxury experience. The interior boasts the latest BMW iDrive system, offering advanced digital services designed for Chinese consumers.
Design and Dimensions
Visually, the X3 LWB mirrors the design language of other recent BMW SUVs like the X1 and X2. It’s a stretched version of the standard X3 unveiled earlier this year. The extended wheelbase, increased by 110mm, contributes to an overall length of 4,865mm, compared to the standard model’s 4,755mm. The width remains unchanged at 1,920mm.
Interior Refinement
The X3 LWB boasts an interior that echoes the contemporary design of the standard X3. The standout feature is BMW’s Curved Display, seamlessly integrating a 14.9-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Complementing these are a flat-bottom steering wheel and the distinctive BMW Interaction Bar. Upholstered in standard Veganza sports seats available in three dual-tone color schemes, the cabin exudes a premium ambiance. Under the hood, both X3 LWB variants are anticipated to be powered by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder petrol engine tuned for different performance levels.
India Outlook
The current-gen X3 is already on sale in India, priced at Rs 72.50 lakh (ex-showroom) for the single available variant, the X3 xDrive20d M Sport. Additionally, BMW India has introduced the X3 Shadow Edition, priced at Rs 74.90 lakh (ex-showroom). While the X3 LWB is currently exclusive to China, the company’s history of introducing long-wheelbase models in other markets after their Chinese debut suggests a possibility of the X3 LWB making its way to India in the future. The next-generation X3 is also expected to launch in India next year.
