YEREVAN, 2 August. /ARKA/. Armenian customs officers thwarted an attempt to smuggle in diamonds worth 8 million drams, the State Revenue Committee reports./pp

It said recently, the luggage of a citizen of Armenia, who arrived in Yerevan from Sharjah in the UAE was subjected to customs control at Zvartnots International Airport./pp

As a result of the customs inspection 22 polythene bags with transparent stones of different sizes similar to diamonds and 2 certificates marked GIA were found in the citizen's luggage./pp

The total weight of the stones was 244 grammes. The value of such quantity of diamonds exceeds 8 million drams./pp

A protocol on smuggling was drawn up. The case was handed over to the Investigative Committee. --0--/p
