Ranbir Kapoor received too much attention, so Rishi Kapoor sent him abroad for his studies. When the Tamasha actor returned to India, he decided to seek mentorship and learn about filmmaking from Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The actor describes his time under Bhansali as an "idea film school." Kapoor wondered why Bhansali is not offering him a movie, considering that almost every filmmaker wants to launch him. Therefore, he prepared a resume and proceeded to SLB's office in search of work. Upon meeting Sanjay, the actor praised his recently released film Devdas, which starred Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

When Ranbir Kapoor met Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the director expressed his interest in doing a movie with him. However, before their movie collaboration, the Rockstar actor worked with Bhansali, assisting him on the sets of Black, which stars Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukerji. Ranbir told Nikhil that Bhansali was a task master. They were working on the sets for 14 15 hours a day.

Further, the Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani star revealed that there were 10 assistants, and he wasn't treated like some special kid because he's Ranbir Kapoor. The actor revealed that the Gangubai Kathiawadi director is short-tempered, and there was a lot of anger coming their way. Kapoor believes that it was this side of Bhansali that hardened and prepared him for anything in life.
