Former Radio Liberty employee elected director of Public Radio of Armenia: former head of the broadcaster files a lawsuit

ArmInfo. Former Radio Liberty employee  (Program center in Prague) Armen Koloyan has been elected director of Public Radio of Armenia. The decision was made by the Council of the Public Broadcaster on July 29.

Five members of the Council of the Public Broadcaster voted for Armen Koloyan's candidacy, and former director Garegin Khumaryan (his term expired in April of the current year) received zero votes. He considers this process illegal. "I would like to wish the winner good luck, but this is not the case. The result of the competition is the result of administrative and legal balancing, and I am filing a lawsuit. The issue was discussed with a number of the most authoritative experts in this field, and there is a common understanding that the situation should receive an appropriate legal assessment. We are appealing the results of the competition, most likely starting today. The process was predictable, the claims were prepared in advance",  Khumaryan wrote on the social network.

To note, a week earlier, the former director of Public Radio stated that the results of the competition for the position of the new director of the broadcaster had already been determined and the elections were just an imitation. In his post on social networks, he noted that the Council of the Public Broadcaster will announce Armen Koloyan as the winner on July 29. At the same time, he hinted that secret agreements could have been concluded between the Chairman of the Council of the Public Broadcaster Ara Shiriyan and the candidate for the post of director Armen Koloyan, which influenced the results of the competition.  Khumaryan demanded the Council of the Public Broadcaster stop "this disgusting farce" and hold a new competition with the participation of independent voters, as has been the case since 2010. Khumaryan recalled that on April 5, the Council abolished the independent competition committee by its decision.
