Yamaha Unveils Special Edition XSR900 GP Fleet

0

Yamaha ignited a firestorm of nostalgia at the Wheels and Waves festival in Biarritz, France, with the unveiling of eight stunning, custom-painted XSR900 GP motorcycles. These special-edition machines pay homage to Yamaha’s legendary racing heritage, each sporting a unique livery inspired by iconic past victories.

A Collaboration Steeped in History

Built-in collaboration with Yamaha’s “Yard Built” customization program, teams across Europe poured their passion into crafting these exceptional bikes. From Yamaha France’s tribute to Christian Sarron’s 1984 championship-winning TZ250 to Yamaha Italy’s nod to Noriyuki Haga and Colin Edwards’ Suzuka 8 Hours victory on the YZF750, each XSR900 GP embodies a triumphant chapter in Yamaha’s racing legacy.

Legendary Liveries Reimagined

Yamaha Motor Europe themselves joined the celebration, creating a breathtaking replica of Randy Mamola’s 1987 YZR500. This Lucky Strike-clad machine recalls Mamola’s dominant season, securing him three wins and a runner-up championship finish.

Even Yamaha UK got in on the action, crafting a yellow and purple masterpiece reminiscent of Eddie Lawson’s historic 1993 Daytona 200 victory on the Vance & Hines FZR750RR OW-01.

Beyond the evocative paint schemes and decals, each XSR900 GP boasts performance enhancements including an Akrapovic exhaust system and a lower fairing. Both components are available as aftermarket upgrades for the standard model.

A Collector’s Dream

These exclusive XSR900 GPs are sure to become instant collector’s items, each boasting a premium price tag that reflects their unique heritage and craftsmanship. With such a limited run and a powerful connection to Yamaha’s racing DNA, these motorcycles are likely to vanish from dealerships as quickly as they arrive.
