Attempt to smuggle 61 kg of hidden medicines thwarted at Armenia’s border with Georgia

YEREVAN, July 24. /ARKA/. An attempt to smuggle a batch of medicines weighing 61 kg, concealed from customs control, was thwarted at the Bagratashen customs checkpoint on Armenia’s border with Georgia, the State Revenue Committee of Armenia reported on Wednesday./pp

A tow truck operated by an Armenian citizen arrived at the Bagratashen checkpoint recently. During the weighing process, when asked by a customs officer if there were any goods in the vehicle that required declaration, the citizen responded negatively. However, the customs officer suspected that there might be concealed goods in the vehicle./pp

Following an X-ray examination, a detailed customs inspection was conducted, revealing medicines and empty medicine boxes weighing 61 kg. Proceedings were initiated regarding the customs rules violation./pp

Additionally, the State Revenue Committee reported that from January to July 2024, customs officers at the Bagratashen checkpoint prevented 16 cases of illegal medicine smuggling, totaling approximately 340 kg./pp br/p
