Citroen Basalt Heats Up Anticipation: New Interior Features Teased
Citroen is inching closer to the launch of its highly anticipated Basalt coupe SUV, marking the French automaker’s fifth offering in the Indian market. The Basalt, positioned as a direct competitor to the upcoming Tata Curvv, boasts several new features that elevate it from its platform sibling, the C3 Aircross.
A First for Citroen India: Automatic Climate Control Arrives
The latest teaser provides a glimpse into the Basalt’s cabin, confirming a significant first for Citroen cars in India – automatic climate control. This replaces the rotary dials for manual temperature control found in the C3 Aircross, offering a more convenient and precise way to manage cabin temperature.
Borrowing the Foundation, Building Upon It
While the Basalt borrows the C3 Aircross’ core cabin elements like the 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, and cube-shaped air conditioning vents, it adds a touch of differentiation through redesigned features. The front armrest transforms into a more substantial unit with storage space, addressing a notable omission in the C3 Aircross. Additionally, the rear passengers benefit from restyled, contoured headrests for enhanced comfort. Interestingly, some of these upgrades might find their way into the C3 and C3 Aircross later this year.
A Look Beyond the Cabin: Exterior Enhancements
Citroen hasn’t revealed much about the Basalt’s exterior yet, but previous teasers hinted at a projector headlight setup, an upgrade over the C3 Aircross’ halogen units. This suggests a focus on a more premium aesthetic for the Basalt.
Engine and Pricing Expectations
Under the hood, the Basalt is likely to retain the C3 Aircross’ 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine churning out 109 bhp and 215 Nm of torque. Transmission options are expected to mirror the C3 Aircross, with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox available.
The official unveiling of the production-ready Basalt is scheduled for August 2nd. Price estimates suggest a range of Rs 11 lakh to Rs 12 lakh, placing it slightly above the C3 Aircross (Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 14.11 lakh).
