Armenia`s high-tech industry minister, ICPC chairman discuss joint research programmes between Armenian higher schools and ICPC

ArmInfo. Armenia is ready to host the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). This was stated by the Minister of High-Tech Industry of Armenia Mkhitar Hayrapetyan during a meeting with the ICPC Chairman Bill Poucher.
The minister noted that hosting this event in Armenia is an honor for our country, as well as an excellent opportunity for Armenian programmers to take part in an international competition in their country.
Introducing the mission of ICPC, Poucher noted that this is a kind of Olympic Games for undergraduate and graduate students.
During the meeting, the parties attached importance to the implementation of joint research programs between Armenian universities and institutions operating under the ICPC.
According to the department's press service, ICPC is a programming competition in which teams compete to solve problems in a limited time. Initially, the competition takes place at the regional level, after which the teams advance to the world finals.
Holding the Olympics in Armenia will help increase the country's recognition in the international arena. This will also provide an opportunity for the implementation of joint research programs, the creation of new innovation laboratories, the stimulation of technological education, and the participation of young programmers in international competitions.
"All these efforts contribute to the technological progress of Armenia, will create opportunities for youth and stimulate international cooperation in the scientific and educational spheres," the source says. Yesterday the head of the Prime Minister's Office, Arayik Harutyunyan, said that the country's authorities have submitted an application to host the "World Final ICPC 2025" in Armenia and, if the application is accepted, they undertake to organize this prestigious event in accordance with international standards. Note that the ICPC was first held in 1977 as part of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) conference on computer science; since then, the Olympiad has been held annually under the auspices of the ACM.
