Refrain from actions that would prompt police to use force, police chief urges
ArmInfo. RA Police Chief Aram Hovhannisyan, currently on Republic Square, called on the rally participants fefrain from actions that would prompt police to use force. "The police will act within the law. "I want to urge people to refrain from such actions that would allow the police to use force," he said.
In response to the remark that there could be provocateurs, the police chief said: "Well, we will try to distinguish them." He expressed hope that there will be no extraordinary actions by the people.
On May 4, representatives of the "Tavush for the Motherland" movement, under the leadership of the Primate of the Tavush Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, began a marchfrom the h Kirants village of Tavus to Yerevan. The march participants oppose unilateral concessions and the illegal delimitation of the state border with Azerbaijan. On May 9 at 16:00 a public rally is planned on Republic Square.
The building of the Armenian government is cordoned off by a police cordon; the police have deployed additional forces to the streets adjacent to Republic Square.
