Sanjay Leela Bhansali's debut web series Heeramandi is trending for various reasons. The web series narrates the story of courtesans from Lahore. Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal, Sanjeeda Sheikh and many others play pivotal role in web series. It began streaming on Netflix on May 1 and since then it has been trending. It has become among the most watched Hindi web series on the platform. However, on social media, the makers of Heeramandi are receiving flak too. A lot of people have pointed out that the series and depiction of Heeramandi in it is incorrect. Now, Sonakshi Sinha has reacted to it.

Sonakshi Sinha plays the role of Fareedan in Heeramandi. She is one cruel, power-hungry courtesan who would do anything to rule. Talking about the criticism, Sonakshi Sinha hit back at netizens calling it factually incorrect by saying that the makers never promised a history lesson with Heeramandi. She stated that these trolls are the same people who would love Bridgerton. Further she added that Yes, Heeramandi is a place that actually exists in Lahore, but makers never said that they are delving into history. Boasting about the director, Sonakshi Sinha said, "Sanjay Leela Bhansali is an artist; he has created a world for you. It's a fictionalised version of what was and view it as just entertainment. He's selling you a dream; it's what he's known for."

Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the actors of Heeramandi have been on the receiving end ever since the web series made it to Netflix. From acting to dialogues, a lot is under scrutiny. Sharmin Segal in fact even switched off her comments section on social media post as she got subjected to heavy trolling.
