However, on social media, the makers of Heeramandi are receiving flak too. A lot of people have pointed out that the series and depiction of Heeramandi in it is incorrect. Sonakshi Sinha plays the role of Fareedan in Heeramandi. She is one cruel, power-hungry courtesan who would do anything to rule. Talking about the criticism, Sonakshi Sinha hit back at netizens calling it factually incorrect by saying that the makers never promised a history lesson with Heeramandi. She stated that these trolls are the same people who would love Bridgerton. Further she added that Yes, Heeramandi is a place that actually exists in Lahore, but makers never said that they are delving into history. Boasting about the director, Sonakshi Sinha said, "Sanjay Leela Bhansali is an artist; he has created a world for you. It's a fictionalised version of what was and view it as just entertainment. He's selling you a dream; it's what he's known for."
