Tatoyan: over 96% of respondents in Azerbaijan consider Armenia`s Yerevan, Syunik and Sevan to be "Azerbaijani lands"
ArmInfo. The government of Azerbaijan, in order to legitimize its illegal actions, invents non-existent historical facts, and the government of Armenia contrasts our real existing historical facts, which speak exclusively in our favor, with modern conditions. Former Armenian Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan wrote on his Facebook page.
The human rights activist stated that on April 18, 2024, the Center for Social Research under the President of Azerbaijan published surveys that mentioned Armenia (notably, Armenian settlements in surveys are represented by invented Azerbaijani place names).
"According to the survey, 96.2% of respondents consider "Zangezur, Irevan and Goycha" (Syunik, Yerevan and Sevan) to be the 'historical lands of Azerbaijan'.
58.1% believe that a return to "West Azerbaijan" (the Republic of Armenia - ed. note) should happen within the next 5 years, and 19.9% - within 5-10 years.
76.9% believe that the return to "West Azerbaijan" is closely related to the opening of the "Zangezur Corridor". 61% said that the 'key to success' in returning to "Western Azerbaijan" is the restoration of historical memory, 32.4% said the promotion of religious and cultural values are the 'key to success' in returning to "Western Azerbaijan" and and 18.4% see the 'key to success' in media propaganda.
57.9% would like to go to the "Geycha District" (i.e. Sevan), 37.5% to Lake "Geycha", 43.9% - to "Zangezur district", 40.6% - to see religious monuments. 29.6% - "Irevan" (that is, Yerevan), 28.3% - the Blue Mosque. 57.5% said that the historical and cultural heritage of "Western Azerbaijan" (that is, the territory of Armenia) is rich in mosques, 24.2% - in Albanian temples, 30.0% - in Islamic shrines, and so on," Tatoyan noted.
The human rights activist noted that these polls reflect the directions of the state policy of Azerbaijan, and this, in fact, is the position of the Azerbaijani government. "As usual, under the shadow of public opinion, they legitimize an aggressive and invasive policy towards Armenia. All this is part of the anti-Armenian policy of the Azerbaijani authorities," Tatoyan concluded.
