From January 1 to August 31, 28,939 people were injured and 1,230 were killed in road accidents.

The highest number of accidents was recorded in urban areas, with 18,123 cases.

In urban areas, accidents resulted in 23,150 injuries and 1,002 fatalities.

Pedestrian collisions become the most common type of accident

Pedestrian collisions were the most frequent type of road accident. Since the beginning of the year, 7,831 such cases have been recorded, resulting in 7,908 injuries and 290 deaths.

Head-on collisions ranked second, with 7,078 accidents. These incidents caused 11,609 injuries and 464 fatalities.

Authorities also recorded 1,294 vehicle rollovers, 1,069 side-impact collisions, and 745 rear-end collisions.

Overall, statistics show that the majority of accidents occur in populated areas, and pedestrian collisions remain the most frequent type of incident. Such accidents alone have claimed 290 lives since the start of the year.

The leading causes of accidents

The most common factor cited was the failure to yield the right of way to pedestrians or other road users, accounting for 5,097 cases.

Another 4,603 accidents were caused by improper maneuvering, while speeding was identified as a factor in 2,603 cases.

The report specifically highlighted accidents involving driving under the influence. There were 171 such cases, resulting in 335 injuries and 16 deaths.

In 43 instances, both intoxication and speeding were cited as contributing factors. This indicates that speeding occurred even in accidents where the driver was under the influence.
