Users complain about WhatsApp account blocks
Tengrinews.kz — WhatsApp users from different countries, including Kazakhstan, have complained about sudden account blocks marked as “under review.”
Affected users on X and Threads said they lost access to WhatsApp during ordinary messaging or work.
Instead of chats, the app showed a notification saying that account activity and device data were being checked for compliance with the service’s rules. A decision was usually promised within 24 hours.
My WhatsApp account was suddenly disabled without any warning. I only use the official app, and my work depends on WhatsApp. Please help. This was so unnecessary @WhatsApp pic.twitter.com/du6EewmpPM

Meta, which owns the messenger with more than three billion monthly active users, confirmed the problem. A company representative told TechCrunch that work to restore access was already underway, but did not name the cause of the failure.
Users whose accounts were blocked were advised to wait for the result of the review within 24 hours. If the error is systemic, access will be restored automatically as part of the announced measures.
“We are always working to stay ahead of those trying to abuse our service and ban accounts to help keep other users safe. Sometimes we get this wrong, and if we do, we try to fix it as quickly as possible to get people back to chatting. We’ve taken action to restore affected accounts,” a company representative said.
According to WhatsApp rules, a block may be related to activity involving “spam, scams or threats to users’ safety.” A temporary block is also possible when using an unofficial version of the app or in cases of “scraping” — automated extraction of information for any unauthorized purposes. In such cases, users are warned of a possible permanent block if the violation is repeated.
