Thermometers in Shymkent record abnormal heat above 60 degrees

0
Tengrinews.kz — Extreme heat has set in Shymkent. Residents are trying not to go outside unless necessary; during the day, the streets become noticeably empty, and the few passersby hide in the shade, citing OTYRAR.
Street thermometers are going off the scale, unable to withstand the scorching heat. Footage of a device showing the temperature rising to almost 66°C is gaining views on social media.
Even a short walk under the sun can end in a headache and feeling unwell.
Doctors remind residents that in such weather it is especially important to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.

“It is better to plan all important errands outside the home before 11 a.m., and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. stay indoors or in the shade. A hat is necessary, and the most important factor is drinking water. If someone feels unwell, take them indoors, give them fluids, apply a cool compress, but do not place them under an air conditioner. Cooling should be smooth and gradual,” advised Zhanat Abildanova, head of substation No. 4 of the emergency medical service station.

According to weather forecasters, the abnormal heat will persist until the end of the week, almost no precipitation is expected, and air temperatures will remain high.

“Dry air masses from Uzbekistan will continue to move into Kazakhstan’s southern and eastern regions, maintaining hot weather, mostly without precipitation. During the day, thermometers will remain at 40 to 45°C in the south of the country and 33 to 38°C in the east,” said weather engineer Aknur Aitbayeva.

Amid the high temperatures, the number of people resting by the Koshkar-Ata River has sharply increased. The main reason is the water temperature, which stays at around 11°C all year round.

“When you enter this water, at first it feels cold, but then your body warms up quickly. You do not freeze here at all. It is believed that the water has healing properties,” a city resident said.

The Koshkar-Ata spring is considered sacred. According to specialists, the water contains a complex of beneficial minerals and trace elements that have a positive effect on the body. That is why not only Shymkent residents come here, but also people from other regions of the country. With the onset of the heat, the flow of visitors has noticeably increased. According to specialists, up to 15,000 people come here to swim every day.

“People swim both during the day and at night. They start coming as early as 5 a.m. Even if you come here at one or two in the morning, you can still see one or two thousand people,” says caretaker Maratzhan Darkhanuly.

Authorities are urging visitors to treat this place, which has a rich history and special significance for city residents, with respect. They are also asking people not to forget safety rules and not to harm nature. One mandatory rule is to clean up after themselves.
