Middle East conflict: Iran’s ambassador says there is no threat to Kazakhstan
Tengrinews.kz — Iran’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Kazakhstan, Ali Akbar Joukar, responded to a question about possible risks for Kazakhstan and Central Asia amid the military events in the Middle East. According to the diplomat, there are currently no such risks.
During a press conference, journalists asked whether there was any possibility that the war could spread to Kazakhstan’s borders.
“There are no risks for Kazakhstan. Only in the long term could there be danger for the Central Asian region if serious destabilization or mass unrest occurs in Iran. In that case, there could be a risk of extremists and terrorists from the Middle East infiltrating the region,” Joukar said.
The ambassador stressed that no such threats are currently being observed.
“Fortunately, as long as the Iranian authorities remain in control in Iran, there is no danger to Kazakhstan or Central Asia,” the ambassador emphasized.
Journalists also asked the diplomat about the safety of shipping in the Caspian Sea and whether Iran was taking any measures to protect it.
According to Ali Akbar Joukar, security in the Caspian should be ensured by the coastal states themselves.
