Kazhydromet issues warning for residents of Almaty and Balkhash

Tengrinews.kz — Kazhydromet has published a warning on its website for residents of Almaty and Balkhash.
The information concerns the air quality forecast for Thursday.

“On March 12, unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected in the cities of Almaty and Balkhash,” the statement says.

Unfavorable weather conditions associated with air pollution refer to a combination of short-term meteorological factors such as calm weather, light wind, fog, and temperature inversion, which contribute to the accumulation of harmful pollutants in the surface layer of the atmosphere.
According to forecasters, Almaty will see partly cloudy skies, with no precipitation expected. Fog is possible at times, and roads may be icy. Northeasterly wind at 3–8 m/s, with gusts of up to 15 m/s at times. Air temperature: -13 to -15°C at night, -3 to -5°C during the day.
In Balkhash, the weather will also be partly cloudy and dry. Wind speed will be 1–2 m/s. Air temperature: -13 to -15°C at night, -6 to -8°C during the day.
