Anonymous channels spreading false threats become active in Kazakhstan

0

Tengrinews.kz – A surge in activity from anonymous online channels claiming that unknown individuals are allegedly planning illegal acts, including armed attacks on schools in Kazakhstan, has been detected on social media.
The Center for Combating Disinformation, operating under the Central Communications Service of the President of Kazakhstan, reported this on Tuesday, October 7.
According to the Center, law enforcement authorities have refuted these reports, confirming that they do not correspond to reality.

“A pre-trial investigation has been launched regarding the deliberately false reports of threats. All necessary investigative measures are being carried out,” the statement published on the Center’s Telegram channel reads.

The Center reminded that similar fake messages were observed in 2024 and were promptly removed by messenger administrators.
According to experts, the so-called “fake terrorists” aim to spread fear and panic, undermine public trust in state institutions, and test how society and security services respond to imaginary threats — creating a basis for future disinformation and rumors.
The Center urged citizens to remain calm and avoid spreading panic. Anyone receiving suspicious messages or posts about alleged planned violence should immediately report them to the police or other competent authorities.
Earlier, in its first public briefing, the Center for Combating Disinformation debunked several fakes circulating in Kazakhstan’s media space — including claims about citizens allegedly participating in armed conflicts abroad and rumors of an approved rally in Astana against criminal liability for mercenary activity.
