U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan halts social media activity due to U.S. government shutdown
Tengrinews.kz – The U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan has temporarily ceased posting on its social media accounts due to the suspension of operations within the federal government of the United States, commonly referred to as a "shutdown".
The shutdown began in the early hours of October 1, marking the first such occurrence in six years. The main reason for the shutdown was the failure to reach a compromise between Democrats and Republicans over the budget bill. Democrats were advocating for an extension of tax benefits for participants in the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the repeal of cuts to Medicaid, and the restoration of funding for public broadcasting. However, Republicans rejected these demands, resulting in the bill not securing enough votes in the Senate.
The U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan announced the temporary halt in updates on its social media pages due to the funding suspension.
"Due to the temporary suspension of funding and government operations, updates on this account will not be published regularly until operations resume fully. Exceptions will be made for posts concerning urgent security and protection matters," stated the embassy.
Despite the shutdown, the embassy clarified that planned services, including passport and transit visa issuance, continue to be provided within available resources.
