Astana residents receive multiple SMS warnings about storm
Tengrinews.kz – Residents of Astana were alerted to an upcoming storm on March 6 after receiving multiple SMS warnings from emergency services, a Tengrinews.kz correspondent reports.
From the early morning hours, citizens were inundated with four separate text messages from the national emergency service (112), warning them about hazardous weather conditions, including icy roads, blizzards, rain, and strong winds.
In response, the Astana Department of Emergency Situations officially announced a storm warning for the city.
"According to Kazhydromet, Astana is expected to experience snowfall at night, followed by rain and snow during the day on March 6. Blizzard conditions, icy roads, and strong southern and southwest winds reaching speeds of 15-20 meters per second are also expected," the statement read.
Earlier, meteorologists from Kazhydromet released their weather forecast for March 2025, predicting a warmer-than-usual and wetter-than-normal start to spring across Kazakhstan. The average temperature is expected to be 2 degrees above the seasonal norm, with precipitation levels exceeding normal across most of the country, except in the southwest and southern regions, where rainfall will remain within average levels.
