Tokayev approved the special status of Turkestan

Tengrinews.kz - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the law "On the special status of the city of Turkestan."
It is noted that the law enshrines the special status of the city of Turkestan as a spiritual, historical, cultural, tourist center and architectural heritage of the country.
The document provides for:

preservation of historical and cultural heritage - protection of the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi and other monuments;
regulation of archaeological and restoration work;
revival of historical and cultural heritage and national handicrafts;
prohibition on construction - restrictions on the height and style of buildings in the security zone;
creation of an archaeological reserve;
creation of a comfortable environment: accessible infrastructure for people with disabilities and inclusive tourism;
unified style of the city - introduction of a design code to preserve the architectural appearance;
expansion of the powers of the akimat and maslikhat for effective management and control;
state support for artisans and regulation of transit transport;
preservation of the historical identity of the city while simultaneously developing tourism and improving the quality of life.

Earlier, the Senate approved two bills related to Turkestan: "On the special status of the city of Turkestan" and "On amendments and additions to some legislative acts on the special status of the city of Turkestan and cultural centers abroad."
It was reported then that the law "On the special status of the city of Turkestan" is aimed at effective management, preserving the historical and cultural heritage and developing national handicrafts. Around the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, the construction of objects higher than 7 meters and objects that do not correspond to the architectural style will be prohibited. In addition, the Mausoleum will be taken under state protection.
The Turkestan Maslikhat will be given the authority to approve urban development regulations and design codes, rules for the formation of architectural appearance and urban planning, and the procedure for using regional symbols.
The Turkestan akimat (local government organization) will exercise state control in the field of protection and use of historical and cultural heritage sites on the territory of the city, coordinate activities to create and develop national handicrafts of Turkestan and its infrastructure, and reimburse part of the costs of craftsmen in the field of national handicrafts of Turkestan from the local budget.
The Turkestan Region akimat is given the authority to coordinate the schemes and procedures for the movement of transit automobile transport through the territory of Turkestan.
