Ramadan 2025: Should Kazakhstanis expect prices to rise for dates and nuts
Tengrinews.kz - Will popular products such as dates and nuts become more expensive during the holy month of Ramadan? This was the question the Minister of Trade Arman Shakkaliyev was asked about.
On the sidelines of the Mazhilis, journalists asked Shakkaliyev whether the ministry has agreements with retail chains on discounts and promotions for the period of Ramadan and whether such products as meat, dates, nuts, and dairy products could become more expensive.
"From the current practice: during such periods, our retail chains hold promotions and announce price reductions, hold various events. This is the most important thing. In general, all the faithful, including many of them in retail chains, do not seek to make money on this, but on the contrary. This is a holiday of goodness. So at this time they take appropriate measures to show their generosity and hold various promotions, which are aimed, among other things, at reducing prices," Arman Shakkaliyev answered.
The official emphasized that the department does not associate price fluctuations with the upcoming fast.
In 2025, the holy month of Ramadan will begin on March 1 and last until March 29.
Ramadan is a time of spiritual cleansing, fasting, and prayer, when Muslims seek to strengthen their faith by turning to spiritual life, charity, and awareness of their actions. The month lasts 29-30 days, depending on the lunar calendar, and ends with the holiday of Oraza Ait (Eid al-Fitr), which in 2025 falls on March 30.
