Two new electric trains will operate around Astana
Tengrinews.kz - Two new electric trains will begin operating around Astana to improve rail connections with the capital.
Speaking at a briefing at the Central Communications Service, Deputy Chairman of the Committee of Railway and Water Transport, Nurzhan Kelbuganov, outlined plans to purchase new trains. He said 226 new carriages will be acquired this year for the country’s busiest routes.
"Last year, an electric train was launched between Astana and Burabay, reducing travel time from 3.5 to 2.5 hours. This year, we plan to introduce two electric trains on the routes from Karaganda to Astana and from Yereymentau to Astana. These trains will operate around the capital," Kelbuganov said.
Previously, it was announced that a direct train service between Balkhash and Almaty will begin operating on March 1.
