Russia extradited a gang member to Kazakhstan
Tengrinews.kz – The General Prosecutor's Office of Kazakhstan organized the extradition of a Kazakh citizen from Russia, who is suspected of participating in an organized criminal group engaged in extortion and fraud.
The leaders and members of the gang have already received various prison sentences, but one of them managed to escape. He was placed on an international wanted list.
"This group, consisting of previously convicted individuals, was engaged in extortion, debt collection through force, and providing 'protection' to entrepreneurs and residents of the Zhambyl region from 2022 to 2023," the statement said.
In August 2024, the suspect was detained in the Amur region of Russia and was later handed over to Kazakhstan at the request of the General Prosecutor's Office. He is currently being held in a pre-trial detention center.
"For the alleged crimes, the prescribed punishment ranges from seven to fifteen years of imprisonment with confiscation of property," the statement added.
Earlier, it was reported that another Kazakh citizen, who was internationally wanted, was extradited by Georgia to face criminal charges for multiple counts of fraud. He is currently being held in a pre-trial detention center in Aktau.
