Almaty prepares for a two-day snowfall
Tengrinews.kz - A two-day snowfall is expected in Almaty. The Almaty city administration has issued a special warning.
It is reported that starting from the night of January 22, a snowfall, at times heavy, is forecasted to continue for two days. Icy conditions are expected, and the air temperature will drop:
On January 22, at night, temperatures will range from -7 to -9 degrees, and during the day from 0 to -2 degrees;
On January 23, at night, temperatures will range from -15 to -17 degrees, and during the day from -5 to -7 degrees.
"In connection with this, the city's utility services will switch to an enhanced work schedule. Round-the-clock duty has been organized at the production bases. 204 sand spreaders will be stationed at their locations until the snowfall begins. Major streets will be pre-treated with liquid reagents. A total of 624 units of special equipment and 1,380 road workers will be involved in round-the-clock operations," said the Department of Municipal Infrastructure Development of Almaty city.
Additionally, to ensure timely warning and removal of snow accumulations on hazardous road sections, inclines, and exits from interchanges, work will be intensified to patrol the road surface conditions by 47 operational brigades.
"Due to the predicted icing, snow accumulations on roadways, and icy conditions on sidewalks, we ask drivers and pedestrians to take precautions. We recommend that drivers reduce speed, increase the distance between vehicles, and avoid sharp maneuvers," the city administration warns.
Pedestrians should also be cautious on sidewalks: it is advised to avoid tall buildings due to the risk of snow and icicles falling from roofs.
