Trump's Inauguration: All about the ceremony and when to watch the broadcast

0
Tengrinews.kz - The official inauguration ceremony of US President-elect Donald Trump will take place on January 20. Our editorial team tells us what this event is and how to watch its broadcast.
What is an inauguration?
An inauguration is a key moment in the transfer of presidential power in the United States. During this official ceremony, the current president transfers powers to his successor. Traditionally, the inauguration takes place every four years, on January 20, exactly at noon local time.
This date was established in 1937 in accordance with the 20th Amendment to the US Constitution, which moved the inauguration day from March 4 to January 20. The first president to take the oath of office on this day was Franklin Roosevelt, who began his second term.
The main moment of the inauguration is the taking of the presidential oath. Donald Trump, saying the words:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States,"

- will officially become the 47th President of the United States.
Recall that Trump already served as president from 2017 to 2021, being the 45th head of state.
Inauguration of the Vice President
In addition to the president, the new vice president J.D. Vance will also take the oath. This is a mandatory element of the ceremony, after which the vice president officially takes office.

Donald Trump's Inauguration Day: How the ceremony will take place
The inauguration day of US President-elect Donald Trump will be filled with traditional events symbolizing the beginning of a new presidential term. Here's how the day will go.
Morning: The ceremony begins
The inauguration will begin with a visit to St. John's Church, located near the White House. Known as the "church of presidents," the church has long been part of the inauguration tradition. After the service, Donald Trump is expected to attend tea at the White House.
Tea Party tradition
Tea Party at the White House is a tradition that has existed since 1953. On Inauguration Day, the outgoing president and first lady invite the president-elect and his wife to an informal meeting to highlight the peaceful transfer of power.
In 2017, Barack and Michelle Obama hosted Donald and Melania Trump in the Oval Office for tea. Afterwards, the two families went to the inauguration together.

But in 2021, the tradition was broken: Donald and Melania Trump did not invite Joe and Jill Biden to morning tea, which was a rare exception to the rule.
Public part of the Inauguration
At 9:30 A.M. Eastern Time (7:30 P.M. Astana time), musical performances and opening speeches will begin.
The culmination will be the swearing in of Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, as well as the inaugural address. This event will begin at 10 P.M. Astana time. In his speech, Trump will outline the key goals and priorities for the upcoming presidential term.
After that, Trump will go to sign key documents. Then he will take part in a luncheon, which will be organized by the Joint Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.
The public part of the inauguration will end with the traditional parade along Pennsylvania Avenue - the famous street that connects the Capitol and the White House. According to the USA Today newspaper, about 7.5 thousand people will take part in the parade, including veterans, emergency services workers and representatives of various organizations. Among the participants will also be residents of the town of Butler in Pennsylvania, where Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt last summer.
The media writes that the highlight of the parade will be the appearance of the famous garbage truck, which Trump, dressed in an orange garbageman's vest, drove through the "swing" states last fall as part of his election campaign.
The day will end with three gala balls at which the president will speak. At each of the events, Trump will address guests, emphasizing the main themes of his presidency.

Where and when to watch the broadcast
The performances on the main stage will begin at 7:30 P.M. Astana time.
The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for 10 P.M.
The ceremony will be available live on the official platforms of the White House. In addition, all major American TV channels will provide the broadcast: ABC, CBS, CNN, CSPAN, Fox News, MSNBC, NBC and PBS.
Billionaires and former presidents to attend inauguration
Special seats have been reserved for foreign guests at Donald Trump's inauguration. Among them are leaders the media has dubbed "Trump's friends": Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Argentine President Javier MileI, and former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
However, according to The Financial Times, Chinese leader Xi Jinping, who received a personal invitation, has decided not to attend the ceremony. Senior Chinese officials will attend instead.
Local and federal officials expect about 200,000 people to gather in Washington, including both Trump supporters and protesters. Many US senators and members of the House of Representatives will also attend the event, as well as guests of the new administration.
The inauguration will feature President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who lost to Trump in the November election, as well as their spouses Jill Biden and Doug Emhoff.
Former presidents and first ladies are usually on the guest list, but former first lady Michelle Obama will skip this year's inauguration, her office said. She has attended every inauguration since 2009, including Trump's first inauguration in 2017.
Both Barack Obama and George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, are expected to attend.
American disco band The Village People will perform at Trump's victory rally on January 19 and at one of the inauguration balls on January 20. During his campaign, Trump often included songs by this group - YMCA and Macho Man - at his meetings with voters.

Recall that Republican Donald Trump won the U.S. presidential election. He became the first US politician since the 19th century to return to the White House after a four-year break.
It should be noted that the main candidates in the recent U.S. elections were Donald Trump from the Republicans and Kamala Harris from the Democrats. This is the 60th presidential election in the history of the States, in which the 47th president of this country was chosen.
