Kazakhstani music disappeared from Instagram – what Meta says

Tengrinews.kz - The Deputy Minister of Justice, Botagoz Zhakselekova, spoke about the negotiations regarding the disappearance of Kazakhstani music from the popular social network Instagram.
According to the deputy minister, Meta, the company that owns Instagram, is negotiating with collective rights management organizations that represent the interests of Kazakhstani artists.

"As far as we know, this is again a civil law relationship between the rights management organizations and Instagram... Some discussions have arisen regarding the revision of the contract for 2025. Negotiations are ongoing. But when the contract will be concluded and how quickly the music will appear, it still depends on the negotiations being held by these companies," Botagoz Zhakselekova said in the corridors of the Senate.

The deputy minister emphasized that the ministry does not intervene in civil law relations or the work of self-regulating organizations, as "the authors themselves chose them."

"Nevertheless, together with the Ministry of Culture and Information, we proactively reached out to Meta, knowing that this has caused a public outcry and concern among Instagram users. They commented that they cannot disclose the terms of the contract but are hopeful that they will reach an agreement in the near future. This is in the interests of both sides," she added.
