“I won't predict“: the Minister about iPhones
Tengrinews.kz - Minister of Trade and Integration Arman Shakkaliyev was asked how prices will change in connection with the growth of the dollar exchange rate.
The Minister admitted that "there will be changes, there is nothing to hide here".
"Of course, we cannot deny this factor either - changes in the exchange rate difference. We understand and always say that changes in the exchange rate have an impact on import-dependent items present in our market. These items are different, and they also differ in the consumer segment. Price changes may occur. But we emphasize that there are socially significant goods, and a sharp change in their prices always becomes a trigger for price fluctuations, especially seasonal ones. As the Ministry of Trade, we are working in this direction together with the Ministry of Agriculture," Shakkaliyev said during a briefing in the government.
As for other goods, such as household chemicals, electrical appliances or, for example, the iPhone, their cost, according to the minister, depends on demand, which can provoke a stir.
"Price changes will indeed occur, and there is nothing to hide here. But how much the cost will change depends on many factors: supply chain, logistics, storage conditions, purchase prices, and so on. Therefore, I would not predict that your iPhone or Samsung that you are holding in your hands will increase in price by exactly 17.5% by December 31. I cannot tell you this for sure," Shakkaliyev added.
Recall that in a number of cities, the sale of the American currency exceeds the 500 tenge mark.
Earlier, Deputy Chairman of the National Bank Akylzhan Baimagambetov explained why the regulator does not interfere with the tenge exchange rate.
