Xi Jinping defined four “red lines” for U.S. - China relations
Tengrinews.kz - Chinese President Xi Jinping has identified four "red lines" in relations with the United States during talks with U.S. President Joe Biden, according to Xinhua.
"The Taiwan issue, democracy and human rights, China’s system, and China’s right to development are the four red lines that must not be challenged or crossed," Xi stated during an informal meeting of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders in Lima.
Xi emphasized that the One-China policy and the three China-U.S. joint communiques form the political foundation of bilateral relations.
Acknowledging the inevitability of disagreements between two major powers like China and the United States, Xi urged both nations to avoid undermining each other's core interests and to steer clear of conflict and confrontation.
Previously, a U.S. administration official cited areas of significant disagreement with Beijing, including China’s relationship with Russia, Taiwan, the South China Sea, and cyberspace.
US President-elect Donald Trump has made a number of appointments to key positions in his administration and government.
