Gerard Depardieu faces sexual assault charges

Tengrinews.kz - French actor Gerard Depardieu appeared before a Paris court on Monday, accused of sexual assault involving two women during the 2021 filming of The Green Shutters, according to Le Parisien, a French newspaper.
Depardieu, facing numerous allegations, was scheduled to attend the court hearing but was ultimately absent due to health issues, according to his lawyer Jeremie Assous, who shared the information on France Info, a French radio network.

"Gerard Depardieu is deeply affected, and his doctors have prohibited him from attending," Assous explained.

The defense intends to seek a postponement to allow Depardieu to be present at a later date.
As reported by the publication, at the end of April, prosecutors issued Depardieu a summons for alleged incidents dating back to September 2021, during the filming of Jean Becker’s The Green Shutters. One of the two women, a film decorator, filed a complaint in February 2024, accusing the actor of sexual assault, harassment, and gender-based insults, sparking a formal investigation. According to the 55-year-old plaintiff, the incidents allegedly occurred at a mansion in the 16th arrondissement of Paris.
A second woman, an assistant director on the same film, has also accused Depardieu of sexual misconduct.
The renowned French actor, known for his roles in over 200 films, has faced sexual assault accusations from several women over the past six years, though some complaints were dismissed due to statutes of limitations.
Meanwhile, another case against Depardieu looms, as Paris prosecutors have requested his trial for alleged sexual assault against actress Charlotte Arnould, who first filed a complaint in 2018.
Previously, Gerard Depardieu faced accusations of sexual assault. In April, the actor was taken into custody at a Paris police station.
