Wednesday 7 February: Mixed Inter Club v La Cañada (Away)
Starting with a 7-1 advantage from the home fixture back in November 2023, San Roque managed an away result of 1.5–6.5. The half point secured by Joachim & Svetlana Friedl and the full point won by Bill Fletcher & Jules Hale was just enough to secure victory overall 8.5-7.5. So we managed to get the trophy back. Some very close games at La Cañada this time. Well done to all. The fast greens and tricky pin positions were quite a challenge. Thank you to Maria, Gladys and Belinda at La Cañada for their organisation.
It was good to get the second leg of this much delayed fixture completed. Agi Savitz has now arranged the two 2024 fixtures at the end of this year and they will be added to the Members’ Calendar. Thank you to all who participated in the 2023/2024 matches.

Saturday 10 February: Extra Federated Competition
The weather was not very helpful with strong winds and rain showers.
As a result, only 2 of the 14 starters completed 18 holes with their scores being ultimately entered as Extra Day Scores and this particular competition was declared void with a full refund for all entrants.
Course Information:
Old Course: The Team will be fertilizing the greens and tees on Tuesday. On Wednesday and Thursday all the Bermuda grass will be sprayed with fertilizer. Pruning trees, tidying up mulch and removing the area of grass left of the green on hole 13 to change it to mulch are all ongoing jobs which will continue this week.

Golfing Anecdotes:
A couple of famous lines from Harry Vardon:
“For this game you need, above all things, to be in a tranquil frame of mind.”
“If your opponent is playing several shots in vain attempts to extricate himself from a
bunker, do not stand near him and audibly count his strokes. It would be justifiable
homicide if he wound up his pitiable exhibition by applying his niblick to your head.”
Thought for the Week:
Please remember to put bunker rakes in correct position with handle protruding over bunker edge. Slower groups, if they have lost a lot of ground on the group in front, should call a faster group through when sensible, rather than continually making them wait. Please be considerate to others on both these points.
Enjoy your golf this week! Cheers DT
