Officials scramble to breathe new life into I-526 extension

Several Charleston County Council members said Chairman Elliott Summey told them that as part of a deal worked out with state Senate President Hugh Leatherman, the state would cover the roughly $300 million shortfall to finish the final phase of Interstate 526.
